Ashford Hospital League of Friends

All profits raised by the Ashford Hospital League of Friends are used to benefit the hospital’s patients and staff. Sadly this year all fund-raising events had to be cancelled and the charity shop at the hospital has been closed since March. So remember – press the ‘donate now’ button. You can donate to this group by putting their name in the ‘message’ section of the just giving page or your donation will be shared between all charities.

Canaan Christian Ministries

The first Christian Bookshop in Staines was started in the old Johnson and Clarke’s store, opposite Debenhams, in 1973 by a Miss Woodford. She owned the Richmond Christian Bookshop and had put all her savings into this when she retired from the Civil Service. The current shop opened in 1979 and was named Canaan by the new manager, Terry Jones. Canaan was the biblical land of promise and this proved to be very apt as the book shop has been extremely popular and acts as a focus for outreach in the area.

Christ Church, Staines-upon-Thames

Christ Church is a relatively modern building constructed in 1962. There has been a church on  the site since 1935, and the old church building is still in active use as a church hall, with a wide range of community activities, including luncheons, bridge and Scrabble teas. Until 2018 Christ Church was part of a larger grouping with St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s in Staines. In 2019 Christ Church became it’s own Parish, responsible for it’s own part of Staines with a new Vicar.
You don’t have to fit a particular mould to come along – whether you’re coming with children or on your own, as someone living locally or visiting the area, looking to join or to visit just once, you will find a friendly face.

Our main focus is on people in the Boroughs of Spelthorne & Runnymede. We have donated over £200,000 to various needy causes, often we are their last resort!
The Charity is run by local volunteers – nobody is paid, so all of the money raised goes directly to local people in need.
We raise our funds by holding local events, working with local companies and through donations.

You can find out more about Midasplus and the virtual duck race on our competitions page and on their website.

Both churches are on the bank of the river and are an opening and welcoming community of Christians, respecting, encouraging and enjoying a range of Anglican traditions and worship styles.
